Dead silkie :(

Yeah, I don't know what killed this chicken but silkies are not winter hardy. I read that ideal winter bantam temperatures are 30-40 and I would think this especially for a silkie. If there are a bunch of other birds to huddle up with that could help. My silver sebrights sneak into the spaces between the big hens.

I don't think it was the weather, i live pretty close to ya and I have alot of silkies they do fine even in the snow last year and i have one that hatched out biddies 10 days ago and they live with the rest of the flock and are doing fine also with the frost we have been having.

Don't know what could have happen to your baby without seeing her it's kinda hard to say.

I'm sorry I still can't really tell but I would go ahead and rub some mineral oil or vegetable oil on it with your finger just in case. If it is bugs I am thinking you will need to get something to treat her all over with. I can't imagine that they would just be there and no where else. Have you checked her body...esp under her wings, in her topknot and around her vent? Does she have anything there? Can you see anything moving? Scaly leg mites aren't visible (at least not to me)...just the crusty stuff they make.
