I hope this is in the right place. I was outside giving myself and manicure and a pedicure when I noticed my chickens starting to run towards me. I then noticed that they were eating the dead skin and clipped fingernails and toenails that had fallen on the ground. They went crazy over them. I had never seen this before. Do you think they knew what they were eating or they just assumed that it was food since it was falling and had already fallen on the ground? They seemed to enjoy it but that was gross. That was a strange treat for them to have enjoyed.

I agree it's gross, but I believe that fingernails are protein, so I'm sure it won't hurt them. Guess they figured you were giving them a "home grown" kind of treat!

First question comes to mind. Just how dang bad were your feets?

I mean like you had enough dead skin commin off to start a feeding frenzy with the chickens!!! sorry-but it boggles my mind!

I was thinking the same thing as I typed. I thought that someone would want to know how bad were my "kickers". lol.

They were pretty bad. It was so bad, I'm sure that I could have sold at least 4 ounces on ebay. I hadn't take care of them in a while. lol.

If you polish your nails or use a strengthener I wouldn't let them eat the clippings because of chemical residue.

On a lighter note....How bad were your feet? We want to know.
