One of turkeys died tonight. It became a victim of a fellow barn mate. We were in the process of butchering, when we noticed a large off white mass in its abdomen. It wasn't hard, was pitted and had a foul smell. I have attached a picture. Any advice on what this could be?

Wow, what was the composition of the material? Was there a fistula/ulcer/etc. on abdomen at that location? Any pics of internal organ involvement? Really difficult to guess, from that shot. What `fellow' barn mate did it in (stomped by a mule???). An old wound to abdomen that involved the reproductive tract (almost looks like build up of egg material from an internal layer - inside-out??

Sorry for the loss, thanks for posting the shot.

It was a male turkey killed by another. It was white yellow colored. Easily breakable but still a solid mass. Had an odor. It had texture to it with pits and bumps all over it. My husband has butchered before and never seen anything like it. I saved and I am bringing to the vets this morning. Not sure if I will get answers.

Yeah, vent `equipment' seemed pretty male, but the only build up of a mass that color/apparent consistency were from shots of long time internal layers.

That an otherwise physically active turk could be subject to such a buildup is very interesting. Please be so kind as to post up vet. findings/lab results. During butchering - was a wound/opening revealed under `mass'?

I'll guess Staph.
