Dealing with the death of a beloved pet

If you hadn't tried to save it, the "what ifs" would haunt you. Sometimes it is clear that an animal will be better served by immediate euthanasia. Sometimes it is not so clear. I have had a few very injured/ ill animals pull through and live happy lives. Others did not make it. All we can do is try to do what is right. It sounds like you did the best you could for it.

Go easy on yourself. The pain will ease with time. Try to focus on the happier times you shared.

It is never easy to have to make that final call. The unexpected illness/injuries are a two fisted punch to your heart. Don't feel guilty for waiting too long, feel better about not just giving up, you tried. That's all any of us can do.

Your beloved animal family member understood this, now it's time for you to come to peace with it.

You did your best, it was hard, you did what had to be done and now I hope you can rest a little easier knowing you did the kindest, most loving, painful and compassionate thing.

Bless you.

Thank you all for your kind words, I really appreciate it. I lost more animals than usual this year for the oddest reasons so I think it is starting to get to me a bit. I usually have Christmas socks for my pets (not all farm animals but the pets and horses) and it will be sad not being able to hang some of them up anymore in a few weeks. The guy on the fatal attractions show yesterday said it right. He said that you hope that the animals you lose during your life will wait for you and when your time comes they will sit there waiting and wagging their tails or meowing for you. I now feel like I am not alone in my pain anymore. Thanks everybody.
