Recently one of my chickens 1 yr old road island red died. That night we had a very bad lightning storm with rain. She hadn't been sick and was laying fine. I found her on her side the next day under her roost like she had fell off. Anyone else ever had this happen? So sad she was the most friendly girl.

I am so sorry to hear you lost your hen. Maybe the sound and fury of the storm scared her badly, and she had a stroke or heart attack. Was the coop damaged at all? How high was the roost? Do you think it was high enough where the fall would have killed her. A lot of times it's impossible to figure out what caused a death.

Hi and welcome to BYC - sorry for your loss. @DD asks some good questions.

All the best

, The main reasons for Death in a rainstorm (my prediction), Is that she couldv'e passed away from hypthermia, stroke or heart attack. All chickens are a bit sensitive when it comes to little things that scare us people. The most common death from a rainstorm and such, Is drowning, very possible, Depends if she was wet or damp and felt a little wet. As you see, chickens dont have that big of nostrils and can cause drowning of soakage.
