It hurts because the chicks were living beings, full of life -- even if only for a very little time. Life brings the expectation of a future and seeing it taken away should hurt -- it proves you have a heart.

It always hurts to lose living things but I count my blessings that I b only lost one chick . I think he had something wrong and failed to thrive .he was Very tiny . I've had a loss this last year and I think that chick just brought up a lot of emotion that I had not dealt with.

My friend got a shipment of chicks and the hatchery didn't put in heat packs or bedding. And the chicks had coccidiosis, so they have been dropping like flies no matter what she does. The chicks were supposed to be vaccinated, but they fogot. They sent her a bunch more chicks and many of them have foot and leg problems. The stupid people still didn't add heat packs. The new chicks are dropping dead now. Just awful for her, she wanted them so much.

That's horrible 😞 I am so sorry to hear that . I would be so distraught. I bought my first chicks of this flock from Ideal poultry and they were great . These new chick came from Tractod Supply and the rest have been fine .

Why does it hurt to lose chicks that you haven't even had 24 hours. Death happens in farm animals sometimes there is no explanations. You do everything humanly possible and still lose animals . No these aren't my first chicks and yes I have lost chicks before . This one though it hurt me. 😔 It was a tiny mystery bantam from Tractor Supply there was probably something wrong with it to begin with . It was as small as a bobwhite quail chick . I have no explanation other than it failed to thrive . I am a broken hearted 💔
Lost another chick this morning .it was my buff cochin bantam . 4 still doing good so far

I’m so sorry for your loss. Some people get familiar with the loss and get over it quickly, some of us never do. Loss hits hard for me as well.

I have had a rough year with losses both people and pets . I think the chick was the weight that tipped t h e scale. It's never been easy for me and I always play the " what if game" when I lose an animal .

I've played the "what if" game way too many times, and it isn't a game you can win. In the last year, I've lost someone very special and several pets. Some of the pets got vet care -- lots of it; some just died suddenly.

I have to remind myself that not only is it unlikely that I could have prevented most or all of the unhappy outcomes, it is absolutely true that there is nothing I can do now. Regret can eat you alive, but it can't change what's happened.

Take care of your remaining chicks, and please, take care of yourself.

Oh I know it's game I'll never win. I know getting pets that it ends in grief every time.. I've had chickens off and on my while life , but these last birds my 9 month olds were bought before the death of a very special person . They are what I focused on . They helped keep me busy . Death is part of life and grief is a part of death . I grieved for a second for chicks that were too small to thrive . I have to trust in God's plan even when I don't understand it .
