We'll try it once or twice because Birds explore the world with their beaks. Then he won't eat it. Which is why it needs to be in a separate dish instead of mixed in with the food. because we humans will pay a price premium for some ingredients, in pure form - but much less of one when the ingredient is one of many.
On rare occasions the parent compound is relevant to the end user.
To most of us, it's a minor point, but if the smell of fresh popcorn sets off allergies, you don't want corn syrup in your food.

I believe the FDA has a thing against calling anything not made from either beets or cane 'sugar'
It is declared as such, and often the sub-forms of sugar (there are many) are listed.
