debeaking is clipping or burning the tip of their beaks off to prevent pecking when gathered up in large numbers, its painless to the chick, its usually done just a few hours after the chicks are hatched, usually at the time they are being sexed,it only looks strange and does give the chicke a stubbed beak look, some people want it done and some don,t care for it,but it does prevent pecking, once a chick developed a red bloody spot generally on ther back or somewhere on their body the other chicks having a tendacy to continue pecking untill the chick finally dies or is removed from the rest of the flock untill it heals, sometimes the beak grows back and sometimes it don,t but it is totally harmless to the chick and does save some of them from being literally pecked to the point of death,,
