debeaked chickens

I been feeding my gold comets crumbles but considering changing to pellets to cut down on waste,they were debeaked at the hatchery and sold at 17 weeks of age,would it be a problem for them to pick up the pellets since they don,t have a full beak???thanks,,mxpres

Nope as long as you keep the food in the feeder deep enough for them.

I do not know. Actually I am new to all this chicken stuff and I cannot figuar out why you would have a chicken debeaked? I sounds terrible, but I am not really sure what it is or what it looks like. Do you have a picture of your debeaked chicken? I keep picturing a poor chicken with no beak. Is that right or is it just the tip trimmed off? Sorry this wasn't what you were looking for but I am really curious.

debeaking is clipping or burning the tip of their beaks off to prevent pecking when gathered up in large numbers,its painless to the chick,its usually done just a few hours after the chicks are hatched,usually at the time they are being sexed,it only looks strange and does give the chicke a stubbed beak look,some people want it done and some don,t care for it,but it does prevent pecking,once a chick developed a red bloody spot generally on ther back or somewhere on their body the other chicks having a tendacy to continue pecking untill the chick finally dies or is removed from the rest of the flock untill it heals,sometimes the beak grows back and sometimes it don,t but it is totally harmless to the chick and does save some of them from being literally pecked to the point of death,,

If you chickens have ample space and they is no need to de-beak, if they are stuck in a small place with nothing to do they will start to pick at each other.
They can sometimes have a problem getting there feed if the dish is not deep enough to scoop the food up.

I am using the standard 12 pound metal hanging feeder,and check my birds often to make sure they don,t run out of feed or water,I plan on using this type feeder for my 7 cornish X as soon as their out of the brooder,my gold comets came from a hatchery at 17 weeks old,de-beaking was standard because they were probably crowded together
