I was re-reading this and this came to mind: if you give the birds a hard surface for example the ground especially when it is frozen, they will whittle it down so to speak. My Jumbo Ring-necks will take their beaks and dig. It almost looks like a miniature mattock going to town. I have seen my Golden's do the same. I observe my birds a lot and I noticed that one of my RG beak had not point to the tip. He was digging and apparently it needed trimmed so he dug until the smallest piece of the tip snapped off.

I would much rather let them do what is natural than cut them because I have a few pictures of a YG that someone cut the entire top beak off. I felt really bad for this bird and was enraged at the owner for doing this. All because he didn't want it to mate. Some folks should not have animals at all. The bird eventually starved to death. That is why I am against de-beaking. Just my opinion, not trying to troll or cause problems.
