Debeaking?

Debeaking is not something you will even need to consider as long as your birds are healthy and happy and have plenty of room to roost and roam. If there comes a time when you have a chicken that is picking on others and injuring them, there are other solutions. Look up "pinless peepers". Us chicken lovers have humane, if not silly, answers for everything. I give you the biggest box of KUDOS for doing your research BEFORE obtaining the birds. There are always tons of threads and posts that start out, "I have a baby chick! What does it need?" I mean, seriously. It's so hard to bite my tongue when it comes to those. You will LOVE your chicken adventure.

I agree with everyone on here about debeaking it kills me to even think that people need to resort to such a thing because their chickens are overcrowded. plus i think it makes the chickens look terrible.

I just bought 3 pullets, didn't think to as about debeaking. When my daughter drove 600 miles to get them I me. I was so excited!! Saw the birds and burst out crying. How do they eat? How do they get bugs in the dirt? Do I need to keep it clean? How can they peen themselves Im so worried about these chickens…help!!!!

See these threads, the girls have a chance to live a great life with you.

Also I would do fermented feed, it will be easier for them to eat the entire mix of their balanced feed... lots of info on BYC about fermented feed.
