Decapitated missing chickens reappearance

I got free range chickens... some are in cage the free range i have 4 red chickens one day one was good two days later i had 16 baby chicks in cage ...7 of them got taking feathers only we put snake begone out...two days later two mini roosters and a big rooster gone one two pile of feather then two days later the big rooster is back found near where its feathers lay and its headless it was not there at all or anywhere around we search it was in clear veiw headless wat animal or predator would kill decapitate and bring it back in day light and as that happened another of my red chickens gone now there 2 .....anyone kno an answer this this one bc its got me

My guess on the headless rooster ... Is that it somehow escaped alive the previous attack, and went into hiding ... As it was making its way back, it was attacked again ... Do you have hawks about?

I dont think he was alive ..he wasnt there ...bouts two hours later he was and stinks like been dead two days and had ant/bugs where head was missing and we seen one bout 4 months back but never had problem

Unless it was dead in tree branch above it or somethi g and it finally fell down but idk just idea

Do you have loose dogs about ... If it was dead for two days laying about out of sight, maybe a neighborhood dog dragged it up?

No i dont have any and i havent seen any dogswhen out side ive heard some from a far but thst it and when headless chicken appeared and when one the other red chicken dissappeared which was around same time there was someone outside goin from front to back yard just not directly nexted to the chickens

Was any of the rest of the bird eaten?
Any large cats where you live, they can take prey up a tree to eat....or Great Horned Owls?

Just the head and neck and no cats and we heard an owl few days ago all other missing chickens nothing just some feather for few

Where abouts are you from I'm in the UK and I had a similar experience to what you are describing and mine were foxes they usually always bite the head off and sometimes stash them for another day
