DECEMBER Hatch-A-Long!😊

Pics
I have held off assisting because in the past I have had a few chicks pip the wrong end and successfully zip/hatch on their own, but this one has been pipped for 18+ hours and really trying hard but made no progress. It seems it can't turn and keeps pecking the original pip spot.
the third chick has now hatched so I'm debating if and when I should assist it as it's the only remaining unhatched chick

Because I'm a nerd, I can tell you precisely, how long it took between pip & hatch. I had 13 hatch this time (100% success). The longest took 21 hours. That was the egg that started off with the air pocket on the side and by Day 18 it had spread so it was mostly on the end, where it was supposed to be, but still looked a little wonky. When she started pipping, it looked like it was in the wrong place and it was hard to see because of how the egg was laying. I resisted and she came out on her own. Here she is, in Day 1 of life, with her sister who spent 11.5 hours working her way out.

Gaaah over eager teenage daughter went downstairs to help, thought she saw a speck of blood so put it back!!! I wasnt planning on doing anything until its been 24 hours, if I did anything at all (she knows I dont like assisting)
Is this chick doomed to dry out and get more stuck? Gosh darn it this batch has been a disaster

If you have some bacitracin (not neosporin) ointment slather some over the membrane, it will keep it from drying out.

Forgot you were in Australia! Not sure things have the same names there. Do you have some anti-bacterial ointment, the kind you put on cuts and such? Better then water to keep the membrane moist. Some people also use coconut oil. 😊

Edited for spelling.

Here's a little more inspiration for those of you still waiting for your babies to come out. Here are our day-old Olive Egger x Cream Legbars. The lightest one in the middle was the 2nd one overall to hatch, 9.5 hours after he started pipping.

Here's what he looked like when he first came out. Egg #12 had just pipped 15 min before this one hatched, and wouldn't make it out of the shell for another 14 hours.

Here's what eggs 12, 3 and 4 looked like at day-old. Egg #3 took 17.5 hours to get out, and #4 was the very last one to pip, more than 8 hours after the little guy above hatched. #4 then popped out after just 4.5 hours.

These are our Legbar x Dominique beauties.

(Updated the post when I realized I didn't include the photos of the chicks that hatched out of the olive eggs above lol)

She’s just excited and trying to help. I’ve dabbed olive oil on the membrane to solve dry membrane.
