December hatch-along?

Pics
So cute! I love seeing broodies with their little ones. I'm guessing that you are going to try to sneak any that hatch from the incubator under the brooty?

That's the plan but they better hurry up and hatch. It's harder to sneak them under once the hen leaves the nesting box.

Two of my serama hens have gone broody; one hatches Dec. 28 and the other Jan. 4. My Yokohama hen hatched 4 a week ago. Apparently they are cold hardy. The hen had them out and about with temps in the upper 30s low 40s and the chicks were scurrying around like it was a warm spring day. Serama are not cold hardy and I'll be bringing them into the house for a few weeks.

Couldn't resist candle my shipped eggs early, day 5 and 6. The Faverolles and Sussex egg have about 50 % development. That's good, considering they're shipped in below freezing temps. Araucanas looks like 2 out of 9, and the marans are impossible to tell. Haven't thrown any eggs out yet of course, too early to tell for sure.

I've always considered any hatch from shipped eggs a bit of a miracle. I'm planning on getting some eggs from show stock serama in the spring. But I'll be using broody hens instead of an incubator. I have not had any luck hatching serama in an incubator; but with broody hens I always get something.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

So... I’ve started talking to my eggs. Am I crazy? They are 14 days along and I want them to know my voice when they hatch. Lockdown is on Saturday. 12 eggs left. The ones in the mini incubator did not do so well. The one Liege Fighter egg that was developing in the mini incubator got transferred to the automatic incubator.

That's good, and you're not crazy! Chicks can hear through the eggs for the last few days, and they'll know you're their "mother". :)

Our incubator eggs are on day 13. couple will be staggered as are couple days behind. All 8 growing super fast! Lots of movement. Will be cute Christmas surprises.
