7/2002 for me. Dh worked at a hospital that decided to go smokeless on the property They offered all their employees the patches for free. He was able to get them for me as well. We both quit it was so easy. Of course we had cut our cigerettes down to 10 a day before we quit. I wish my daughter would quit but like many she hs tried many times and failed. DH and I smoked for 30 years now we wonder why we ever started.

My mom is quitting. It's been several months since her last cigarette. She went cold turkey since the medication, patch, etc. made her feel extremely sick. She had the early signs of emphysema, so the doctor basically told her you can quit, or you can slowly die a painful death. Now that's motivation.

What she has been doing is putting the money she'd normally spend on cigarettes in a jar. With that money, she's been able to reward herself with nice little camping trips and a new outfit that she wouldn't have normally been able to afford. She said she was shocked at how much money was going into the jar, that she had no idea there was that much she could have been spending on more enjoyable things. I guess you don't think about it until it starts piling up before your eyes.

Oh, I forgot . . . she also told me she set goals for herself that she has to reach before she can touch that money, like no smoking for a certain time increments. And if she backslides at all, she has to take that money and find something practical and not fun to spend it on, like bills, and start again from scratch. She hasn't cheated at all, and her perpetual cough completely went away after only a month! Sorry if I sound like I'm bragging, I'm just so happy for her, and it makes me feel encouraged for everyone else with a desire to quit. If there ever was a woman who had been determined to go to her grave smoking, it was my mother. She's never been able to go longer than a week before, and now it's been over five months for her.

Good luck, and hopefully a healthier future, to you.

My husband and I are both quitting. We've been on Chantix for almost a month now. This is actually our second time on it, but this time it's working. It's amazing to me that I can make through a whole shift without grabbing someone by the throat, slamming him against the wall, and demanding "GIVE ME THE CIGARETTES!" Yesterday was the busiest day at work that we've had in I don't know how long, and I dealt with more stupid people in one day than I can remember ... and I did it all without one single smoke!

It's easier at work. I don't have any cigaretts, and I don't want to smoke OP brand (Other Peoples). But, when I get home, I know my mother has cigarettes. I'll have one, and it does taste pretty funky. I should be able to let that one go pretty soon.

And last night's dream was that my 8 year old son drove off in his own patrol car, going on a shots fired call. I was in the trunk of my patrol car, 'cause I can drive it from the trunk don't ya know, and I couldn't get the lid to latch.

Our son really is the reason for quitting. He's 8 and we're in our early forties. He would ask me for something, and my response would be "In a minute, honey. Wait until I finish this cigarette." How sad is that?
