we opted for 4 birds, but we got five, built a coop for the 5 and wished we had been smart and built the coop to hold 10 ! we spent over a thousand on the coop, 525.00 on the pen and got five girls. well the girls got big, the 5x6 coop seemed to small, we loved the fact the eggs were coming, and that they would feed us, now 1 year later we redid the coop, its now way bigger, the pen is almost twice the size, and the cost was shocking. we got the broody sitting on eggs and got 2 chicks, ordered 4 pullets, and gave 2 girls to mom as she wanted chickens to. We now have nine birds, and enjoy every one of them. next year I want to add more eggs to the constant broody and hatch out a few brahama's
