Decreasing the financial burden of raising chickens

I am trying to get more in touch with my feminine side...

I think you're great MayberrySaint. And I knew you were a guy cause I remember you talking about a blind date that you had where a lady came in your house and a chicken was in the kitchen and she walked out. I just had a slip up.

Ya'll are a riot!

I use a mix that is supplied by my local feed store. It is made for cattle (which I also raise in a small feed lot, only do two a year, selling the other and a side more then pays for the cattle) It has cracked corn and other milled grains, my Silver Laced Wyandottes have done very well on it. I mix it with the standard chicken raising feed.

I do understand the need to keep an eye on the bottom line and with anything if you don't the cost can at times get in the way of the fun.

For me the return on investment comes in the form of hatching the chics and caring for them, the fresh eggs (nothin' better in my opinion) and the fresh meat.

A small aside, the piece of mind that comes from knowing that the eggs and the meat are raised as clean and chemical free and in a caring manner.

buc...love your signature line. Truer words have not been spoken."

Thanks, It came to me after reading about some greenies talking about saving some trees and a garden spot that was used for community gardening, a Hollywood Celeb got involved somehow and talked about how the land owner should continue to allow the community gardeners to continue, the land owner had decided to sell the land.

If I recall correctly the asking price for the 35 acres was 1.2 million USD, I thought that the Hollywood Celeb could have put that cash together and bought the land solving the problem.

Far as I know she never did.
