Here are pictures of one of our male emus. He has been sitting, fully exposed, on this nest since the last full weekend of January. So far, he has endured hurricane-strength winds a little over a week ago, eight inches of snow on Monday night with more snow on Thursday. The air temperature Thursday night was 2 degrees above zero and we have had days that chill factors were in the negative teens! There have been several days that temperatures have not risen out of the teens and a snow/rain mixture is supposed to start this afternoon. As you can see, I have added straw around him on the nights that get down in the single digits, other than that, he has been on his own. If any of the eggs hatch, he has my vote for "Father of the Year"!
p.s.- he is already a successful dad as he fathered six of the eggs that we have hatched in the incubator last weekend!
