Is chicken poop with some shavings enough to put into a compost or do you need a lot of other organic things in there?

Yes. Rule of thumb is 1part green (grass, manure, coffee grounds, etc.) to 2 parts brown (dry leaves, sawdust, straw etc.). It will compost anyway as long as it gets moisture, but it will compost faster if you keep things in proportion and turn it every week or two. Rot is life.

Good idea to throw in a couple shovel fulls of dirt into the mix.
