I have a 4x8 coop that is 4 feet tall and is raised off the ground. I have vinyl flooring it it for easy cleaning. I am wondering if I can use the deep litter method in it or does that have to be done with a dirt floor? I seem to have confused myself on the matter.

If i cant use it does anyone have a good recommendation for this?

We have a vinyl floor in our 8' X 8' coop, I ran the edges up the walls about 4" and sealed the edge seams. We are experimenting with a straw base deep litter in there, mostly so we don't have to clean it out as often, or need a poop board under the roosts. I think it would work for you if you have some way to keep it all within the vinyl flooring.

I have seen folks use it over just a wooden floor but I don't have any idea how long that type of floor would last with deep litter on top of it.

Our run also has straw based deep litter and it works really well for making the litter into compost.
