I use hardwood chips in my covered run. They work well even in winter to insulate from the frozen ground. I use the old litter as mulch around my fruit trees..

Yes. I use everything I can get my hands on - wood chips, crushed leaves, grass clippings, shredded hemp, shredded office paper, pine needles. Works great, breaks down over time and you just occasionally add more of whatever you’ve got. Fresh wood chips smell great too.
