deep litter method

My coop is off the ground and has linoleum tiles. So far, so good! I keep it mixed well and also use plenty of diatomaceous earth so that it stays as dry as possible. I use a mixture of straw and pine shavings to keep the straw aerated, otherwise, I think it gets matted and retains moisture. This is all working for me, again, so far. The floor of their coop is soft and will be a great layer of insulation come winter. I definitely want to keep my girls healthy and comfortable!

Oh, and for me, a bale of pine shavings costs about $6/bale and lasts 3+ months!

Sad.

Not sure what I'm gonna do then.. Maybe the pine shavings.
I guess its a one time thing then just now and then to turn the shavings?

I can still use the straw in the run!

Not saying u can't use it..just know it molds. Idk how it would be mixed up w other stuff. To each their own. Can try it I guess.

Hmmm, maybe I should start over since keeping the coop moisture-free is key. My litter pile has only been going for a month and a half anyway. Deep Litter and Learn!
