deep litter method

My coop is off the ground and has linoleum tiles. So far, so good! I keep it mixed well and also use plenty of diatomaceous earth so that it stays as dry as possible. I use a mixture of straw and pine shavings to keep the straw aerated, otherwise, I think it gets matted and retains moisture. This is all working for me, again, so far. The floor of their coop is soft and will be a great layer of insulation come winter. I definitely want to keep my girls healthy and comfortable!

I'm afraid the straw will get moldy because it doesnt dry out.. I use pine.

Not saying u can't use it..just know it molds. Idk how it would be mixed up w other stuff. To each their own. Can try it I guess.

Hmmm, maybe I should start over since keeping the coop moisture-free is key. My litter pile has only been going for a month and a half anyway. Deep Litter and Learn!
