Define me a word please...

I have been dealing with none stop horrible things in dealing with "My side of the family" And I have found over a short period of time that words is highly over used. Just wanting to confirm my definitions as others define their definitions. You might say I will be putting it to use here soon. I dont know though

No the definetion of a family. What makes one? And well who you consider a good family member or bad.....

well, there is family you are born to.

and the family you chose.

here are each definition respectively:

one you are born to: A fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children.

one you chose: Two or more people who share goals and values, have long-term commitments to one another, and reside usually in the same dwelling place.

Here's something the DW says everytime I blast a family member;

"You can pick your friends you are given your family members"

A good family member is one that loves you inspite of yourself.

A bad family member is one that that loves you inspite of themselves j/k
I suppose a bad family member is someone that continues to do harm, verbally, mentally or phisically, inspite of pleas to stop.

reason in which i ask is because I have been fighting with my family going past two months. I posted about the beginings of the problems some where around here. TO put it in a nutt shell my brother tried to severly hurt his son. My husband and I called the police and now we are dealing with all the the "family" saying we are just trying to destory the whole "family". I cant the times a person from my own gene pool has told me to die and burn in hell for helping the kid. And in in some form or another they all have either told me i was on my own the the fight to help my nephew. Or flat told me to die, and I wasnt a part of their "family" Fine by me I am embarrasssed to be out of the genes they all came out of. Horrible aweful ingrates. I have had threats of all types made to me or my husband. I am just seeing if this is usually what a family cracks up to be. I know my husbands family is no where near what they are. But maybe he got really lucky. I only admitt to having in laws as "family" along with my dad who is a wonderful and awesome man, my nephew. And Me my husband and my kids. Just sizing it all up thats all. Last night I spent an entire night trying to work everything out in my own mind. Still havent gotten there. Hoping maybe you all could aid in my wonderings. thats all.

Ok, well if you've ever watched an episode of "Everyone Love's Raymond" you've seen my family in action. Everybody has their quirks, habbits and the odd emotional outburst. No two families are the same. The definition of family is far too complex to define in a few sentences.

After reading your further explination, if you did believe the child was in danger you did the right thing. And many times, doing the right thing isn't the popular thing. You have to do what you believe is right all the time, it's called "morals". I assume you talked to the father before going to the cops?
