What’s wrong with my chick? Hatched this am, around 7:30. Can’t stand.

Splayed Legs. Easy to fix on couple day old chicks. But may take a couple weeks to completely fix.

I’ve had two chicks like this. Follow the video and you should be fine. There’s also other videos using different materials and such.

The chick won’t be able to walk in the future if you don’t intervene. I’d let the chick dry and get some fluff before you do anything.

Some cases are worse than others

Thank you!!!!

I will be fitting her tomorrow for her brace. She’s fluffed and in the brooder. They are all sleeping- there’s only 5. She already seems to be moving better than when in the incubator, but her one foot definitely doesn’t work right.

Here’s a better pic of her. That leg just flops wherever it wants and her poor yolk butt. She pipped and hatched in like 20 min, so it’s no wonder. She’s bigger than the other peeps too.

This morning she is up on her legs, but her right foot seems clubbed?

I’m going to do the leg brace and a toe brace to try and help her out. I need to keep her separate from her siblings; does she *need* the heat lamp or would she be ok at room temp if I put her where I can keep an eye on her?
