Hi, if you would be so kind can someone please watch this video I uploaded to my Google Drive of my chick in the incubator that appears to have some grave issues?

I needed to assist his hatch after he tried to zip and gave up for 12+ hours. This was a day and a half after his external pip. The assisted hatch went without incident thanks to the wonderful articles I followed here. Now that he’s out it is obvious why he could not turn to zip.

Is there anything I can do to help this poor thing? I don’t want to cull, because it will be the first time for me to do so, but if I need to put him out of his misery because there’s no hope for him….

If this is just splayed leg and wry neck I’ll treat the injuries. But it seems to me to be a lot more. He’s been out for 12 hours and has spent most of that time writhing on his back and shaking. He will flop around the incubator and then end up on his back again. When I try to right him to his feet he panics and flops back to his back.

It's a chick from a deficient hen. You could try to treat, but this kind of chick often dies within the first week.

Thank you for your advice! I was looking back at my incubation notes and remembered I somewhat jostled this egg prepping the lockdown, I set it down rougher than I intended because I misjudged my hand placement, it didn’t result in any hairline cracks or anything but could rougher handling like that at day 18 be the sole contributor or is there something in the parentage that would be more likely to blame?

This from a hen that is low in vitamins, or amino acids when she laid the egg. Rough handling, & parentage aren't the cause.
