Hi everyone I have a chick with what looks like a deformed tongue. Her tongue looks lumpy and a bit short is this something to be concerned about? This morning I saw her open beak breathing when drinking her water and don't know if her tongue could be playing a role in that or if it was possibly due to her lamp being on. I have had her since March 22nd and have just noticed her tongue today. I was reading on someone's post that their chick had a round tongue and they had to put her down. My chickies are my pets and am now thinking about what I should do for my chick and need advice. This is her tongue and her beak looks normal. Her hatch day was also March 5th. Is there anything I can do for her?

I've never heard of anyone's chick having a deformed tongue but doesn't mean there aren't any out there. I just think it's a pretty rare thing. I wonder if she injured it.

If it were me, I'd give them all Poultry Cell water twice a week for a couple of weeks. It could possibly be due to a vitamin deficiency, and even if it wasn't, it might help her out.

As long as it can eat/drink somewhat normally, which she's made it this far so she must, I'd have hope she'll grow up fine.

Maybe feed her wet crumbles for a while too, as that would be easier to eat.
