I just hatched some orpington, and one I helped (probably should have left) has a deformed face/crossed beak. And also both feet a curled. I'm going to try taping feet (have done it with quail) if it can eat or not will be another thing. Or might have other things going on. Its very lively. I feel i have to help it
How does this happen? I possibly had some humidity issues (had other issues) but could it be genetics? I brought the eggs.
Anyone else had one thats survived? Tips for care etc?

Most likely it is probably genetic related.

Have you see this yet?

Hatchability problem analysis
Reading that I think heritry but also could have been temp problems to high as had one hatch early also and 3 dead in shell also had a blood ring at begining. I did calibrate incubator at start but I think the humidity and temp are a bit off on incubator display.

Troubling. I would say that it's likely genetic. I had a Silkie baby with the curled feet. I didn't catch it soon enough so it led to splayed legs. I tried to fix her, but she didn't make it. You have caught it early on, so hopefully you can fix it.

I’ve hatched hundreds of bantam cochin chicks, and one of my hens hatched a cross beak this summer. First and only one ever in my flock. And it was hatched by a broody. So i personally don’t believe it’s genetic.

My little pullet does fine on her own, eats and drinks on her own. I’m sure the severity as your chick grows will make a difference. I’m just saying they can do ok without any assistance, so don’t count her out yet.

I've put it seperate taped its feet (One is ok but other is twisted doesnt sit flat) tryng to get it to eat and drink but will see what happens. Im thinking incubator had temp problems possibly humidity to low too I've got a new incubator hopefully have better luck with it
