Deformed Face on baby chick (UPDATED: PHOTO HEAVY)

Aww poor baby! I would keep it,and try to let it live as normal life as possible!! Most likely the cross beak will get worse..

I had a rooster that had a very severe crossbeak. He lived a normal life. We made sure no other roosters were in the same pen, and only "nice" hens. He had limited ability to defend himself, if they had picked on him. He enjoyed his little harem, but we never let any eggs hatch from his pen. (I put the girls with him that I did not want to reproduce. If someone went broody and I wanted more babies then I slipped them eggs from another pen.) I did make sure that his food was in a dish, not scattered on the ground. For example, he ate scratch out of a pan, not off the ground.

I would give it some time and see how it does. Chickens can live with cross beak pretty well but if it is blind I would cull it unless you have the time space and energy to take care of a special needs chicken.

I had a chicken who had a beak like that and he lived to adulthood and had as good of a life as the others. In fact, he seemed to be the dominant rooster. Hope this helps

mine is 3 days old now and very active it is eating and drinking ok.. and is not blind.. walks with it's head turned to see where it is going tho..

seems to be thriving.. will give it the benefit of the doubt and see how it goes... if it goes into decline i may cull it.. but not now..
