Hello everyone. We found an abandoned Canada goose gosling at my work place. She was stumbling around, and we ended up bringing her home.
She is now around 5-6 weeks old, and today one of my kids noticed what he called a lump on her neck. My wife and I looked at her closely, and it almost feels as if she has 2 spines. We are no experts in goose anatomy, but it sure didn't feel right. I saw a post on here about a gosling that was stepped on by his mother, and there was a lot of good advice. She seems to have some of the same symptoms that gosling had.
She doesn't seem to have any problem eating. She eats clover, and dandelions when she is outside, and game feed, and when she gets the chance, she eats the cats food as well. She seems to be drinking well.
She always seems to be pecking at something on the floor or the ground. She loves to eat hair if she can find it. I am going to include pictures and a short video so, hopefully, you can see what we are seeing, and let us know if it's normal or not.
Her parents abandoned her for a reason, and we are wondering if this might be it.
Thanks everyone.
The kids have named her Jemimah Puddle Duck. I have a short video of her when we first found her as well.
The video is too large.

Looks like a deformity If it isn't keeping her from doing all the things you listed eating drinking etc hopefully she'll live a nice Long life maybe 20 yrs.

She sure is cute.

Maybe @casportpony has seen something like this is s good with water fowl anatomy

:welcome

I sure hope so. We just lost our 1 year old Quail the other day to a broken leg and a lump in his abdomen.
I also just found out that it is illegal to keep wild animals here, and because she was born in the wild, she is considered wild. So, now we have to break it to the kids that we have to find he a foster goose family. I just wonder if whatever the reason her parents abandoned her for will keep another goose family from accepting her in.

Oh please find a wild life rehabber don't set her out with other geese she'll most likely die not have been taught how to fend for herself . Giving her up to a wild life rehabbers they will evaluate if she can go back or because of her deformity remain in a sanctuary. What state are you in? Here in NC we have Carolina Water fowl rescue if you contact them they maybe able to help you locate a rescue near by, But please don't just take her somewhere and let her go. .

I just spoke to the DNR here and she said, yes it is illegal to keep her. She gave me 4 rehab centers here in Ga to talk to. So I guess Jemimah will have a new home this weekend. Turning her out was the last thing we wanted to do.

Well, I have an update on Jemimah Puddle Duck. We found out from the DNR that it is illegal to keep a wild animal no matter what, even if it is injured. We have taken Jemimah to a rehabilitation center in Lithonia Georgia called AWARE Wildlife Center. They were thrilled to get her and are putting her in with all the other Canada geese they have there. Thanj you all for your help.
