When I woke up I noticed one of my Chicks had Zipped out a large hole, but not around the whole egg. Somehow it got part of its face out of that hole and has been like that for who knows how long. He was obviously trying to squirm and get out, so I helped him escape the egg, there was no blood or veins anywhere inside the egg, so He was definitely ready and came bursting out, he was the last one to hatch. Now that he is out, he is not able to get his footing or even able to get off his back. His cheek and Eye are very swollen and bulging in the shape of the hole he had his face crammed out of. His eye isnt punctured or anything, but its super swollen. Any chance for him? Is this an injury or deformity. He is crying like crazy and flopping around(more erratic than they normally do).

The Baby is also alot bigger than the others that hatched yesterday. Has a huge Belly.

I rinsed him off, blow dried him, and put petroleum jelly on that bulging eye since its so swollen the lids are stuck open. I also noticed a cut near his nostril where he was rubbing against a sharp piece of shell while he was thrashing around. poor baby. He has his feet under him now, but cant lift his head.

Wish I had some suggestions for you, but want you to know I'm rootin' for the little one. Hope he makes it.

Thanks! Off topic, but I was born at Feather River Hospital 30 years ago.Small World.

A fair number of my chicks seem to think they can't lift their heads right after they hatch.

I tend to leave them in the bator, every now and then I may give one that I feel particularly sorry for polyvisol but after a couple of hours they all tend to figure out the whole neck muscle thing. I just figure it's like a newborn baby except they learn much faster.

Well, he is wobbly but on his feet! He kinda looks like Sloth off of" The Goonies" right now. I hope the swelling goes down soon.
