Thank you, and everyone, for your condolences. It just isn't the same without Maureen. To answer your question, i got them from a woman when they were just a few days old. Once they were big enough, they were outside free-ranging. They got Flockraiser and extra greens. The gander from our original three had different parents, he's a lavender. He's fine. i did take Jeanne (Maureen's sister) back to our vet for follow-up x-rays. It showed the break in her leg is healing itself. She seems fine, except she still limps pretty badly. i don't think she can ever rejoin the flock. But on nice days she is out in a small pen in the yard so they can all chat.. . . I'm thinking maybe your two geese at some point somehow didn't get enough calcium. Since calcium uptake depends on both magnesium and vitamin D, they may have lacked one of those. Do you know if the previous owner kept them free-range? If they were indoor, they wouldn't get enough vitamin D from the sun.
I'm so sorry for your loss, and I hope Maureen's sister recovers.
