I knew it would happen! I feel like the run and coop seem tight for my chickens. I want to expand their area but use my existing coop also thought about a second housing area but was not sure how that would work.. Need some ideas..
Thanks

Hi Beth can you give us some details and or pics?

Some coops can be enlarged via extra platforms to increase the walking area and there are other nifty things one can do. Dou your birds have at least 4 sq ft each indoors and 10 sq ft in their run?

Outside is fine as far as what they should have, its me that thinks they would like more. Inside is another story. I have 6 silkies and 1 ee/ silkie. two roost and 5 huddle like a christmas tree in the corner. the space is small 4x4 with a height of 4 ft. I had 4 silkie but now I have the additional 3. No fighting or anything. I'll go take some pics....

here ya go I was thinking of enclosing some of the shelter area but I like that they can go out in the rain and not get wet. so I was thinking of bumping out on the backside...

Wouldn't it be easier just to build under the existing roof over the run for coop space? You wouldn't need to join any lines then. Then simply extend and cover the new run.

or....You could build a connection to a common wall...then you only need three sides of material. I would personally build under that very nice roof system that you already have.

Yes, I thought of that too! I just was looking for something easier to get in and out of. Plus i have one silkie that will not go in at night, she goes under the coop section thats there and i have to reach under to get her. If I build under the roof it would be harder to get her at night...

Thanks for the info, I may try it anyway.....

Good idea ROC4K. In the beginning I had trouble getting mine in the coop at night, and got tired going out ever night to round them up and put them in, but then started giving them some of their favorite treats in their coops in the eves. They would go into the coop for the treats and I would close the pop door and shut them in. Now they go in every eve like clockwork.

Thanks, I'm gonna wait for the temps to come up, its 22 degrees right now!!
But I have plans on building today. I will share when I come up with something...
