Agree they do alot of good, but they should get the facts, before killing that many roosters. Talk about a rooster that will protect a flock. Would have been very easy to find home for them.

There is a rescue group called Puppy Mill Rescue. I have real issues with this group! They will go to a Puppy Mill Auction and BID (yes you read that right BID) on the dogs that the millers are auctioning off. Their purpose for doing so is to "rescue" those poor dogs that are being bred over and over and kept in rabbit cages and living in filth all their lives and find them good forever loving homes. Adoption fees for some of these unsocialized dogs are in the HUNDREDS of dollars range.

These same people then preach to the public and educate the public against buying from Pet Stores because those pups came from a puppy mill. By buying a pet store pup, you are lining the millers pocket and enabling them to buy yet more dogs for breeding.

Does anyone besides ME see the idiotic reasoning here? THEY as a RESCUER can go directly to the PUPPY MILL AUCTION, pay oodles of $ to buy one of these over bred malnourished and abused dogs, hand cash DIRECTLY TO THE MILLER, and that's NOT enabling the mills?!

Yea, great rescue group! And those poor pups in the petstores should just be euthanized so that they don't ever get a decent home...you know, because they came from a mill so we shouldn't show them any kindness or love or take them home because we all know puppies can choose whether or not they are born in a mill, right?

deerman, I hope you know I was being tongue in cheek. It really irritates me that they say don't buy from pet stores, because like you said, not ALL pet stores get their pups from Millers.

And IMO even if they did, that puppy STILL deserves a great home! Don't punish the pup because of where it came from!

About the Animal Planet pet police shows---
Some of those people are crazy. That pretty blond from NY just disgusts me. She is so arrogant and rude to people. A dog with a hair mat is being abused? PLEASE! Have they ever seen a sheepdog in the fields? That long hair is there for a reason. It's called protection from the elements. She just shows off for the camera. It's disgusting.
I don't mind the ones from Detroit, at least they are fairly logical about discerning what is and isn't abuse. They seem like they are doing a good job. Actually many of the people on there really care about animals, and seem to use common sense rather than bullying tactics. I just can't stand the ones that are so arrogant on the NY show. I have to turn the channel because it irritates me so much to see them bully and lie to people.

I would never buy a pet shop puppy but I would quite happily get a puppy from a BYB, especially if both parents were there. One reason I'm careful about pounds and shelters is their spay/neuter polices. A dog fixed too young can develop joint problems especially a very active dog, and a female can develop urinary incontinence in her middle to later years. Oh, and, as someone said earlier, just because a dog has the equipment to breed it really isn't a given that it will breed. Responsible ownership is always the key here.
