Depluming Mites And How To Treat Hens???

I rescued a rooster 6 months ago who had mange mites but they were dormant. Obviously they didn't warn me he had mites, they just wanted rid of their problem.He's been wormed, bathed, given antibiotics, salt soaks, neem oil soaks and oil put on his legs & feet & body to smother them out. He was treated with psp, permethrin & now Ivermectin .The coop was stripped & cleaned and white washed then sprayed with psp & permethrin . His skin is still red from his belly to his tail feathers and the upper part of his neck (one side)He appears to be resistant to treatment. These buggers are a pain to get rid off .

Interesting. What are signs they have coccidiosis? I have a vet appt Thursday

Sorry just saw your post. How was the vet visit?
I have read that coccidiosis causes blood in stools, and lethargy and not eating. But I think they can have coccidiosis with no blood in stools. Intestinal blockage, no poop coming through, just white. I think the blockage in turn causes yeast to grow so it might present as a yeast infection. Also one of my hens was laying soft shelled eggs. The day after I started her on Corid, eggshells improved.

I've read commercial chicken farms cull them.

Unfortunately I believe thats correct.I am considering making a big chicken tractor for my chickens so it'll be easier to keep clean & pest free.A plastic tarp and hardware cloth top to bottom with an electric fence 24/7 attached to the frame.As long as I keep it moving the pests will have nowhere to hide.Then I can focus on the nest boxes and the chickens themselves.That cuts most of the work out.

It was great. She checked skin and feathers and said their skin was great and they didn’t have mites. She thinks she’s molting bc she didn’t molt last time others did.

Are you seeing any improvement yet? I've given 8 doses of ivermectin to my two Rhode Island Reds. The one who looked the worst still looks bad and has been losing weight. I'm supplementing them heavily with Fresh Eggs Daily probiotics, which seems to be helping them, but waiting for molting and hoping for the best. Good luck to you!

So far no improvement. I’ve been treating them with drops on bare skin once a week for a month or so. My hen that is the worst is still constantly digging.
I just ordered a small bottle of Elector PSP. Trying that next. I’ll give them a break in between.
This is so frustrating! 3-4 or my hens have this and the rest (4-5) look fine. Fully feathered.

I use a supplement in my chicken's water called Ropa Poultry Oregano Oil + Supplement. I found the best price from My Pet Chicken. Looking but not seeing mites caused me to delay treatment of my flock which caused an infestation that killed 2 birds. If you're treating your birds with permethrin and they aren't responding you haven't identified the mite or lice or aren't treating it correctly.Chickens can have more one kind at the same time.

Update on my two hens. I decided to try dipping the hen whose feathers are so thin and sparse in Elector PSP. I mixed up a gallon solution and stood her in it and poured it over the areas that are do sparse. I pushed her dried poopie butt in the solution and pulled the clumps out. I found a cockleburr in there too. Bet that was uncomfortable for her. While pouring the solution over her I saw some new feathers coming in! And she seems to be feeling better since the dip. Fingers crossed.
