Hello, just this morning I lost 3 out of 5 of my chickens to a predator. One seems to be doing just fine but the other has blood that isn't hers on her feathers and has been standing in the coop for about 3 hours. I went in and gave her her favorite treat to try and cheer her up, and it seemed to help a small bit, but I want to know what else I should do. Should I try to get another pullet or two to try to rebuild the flock? Should I wait until winter passes and raise some more hens? What can I do to cheer her up?

:welcome :frow I had some birds killed by an owl. I moved the birds to another coop. My male was totally freaked out. He was pretty bloody as was one of the hens. I think moving them to another coop helped. It did take awhile for them to recover and they did. One of the females had a damaged comb. Since this just happened I would give them a little special TLC and spoil them a bit. I'm sure they will be ok. After a little time goes by then maybe add a couple more birds to be their buddies. Tyring to get them new buddies might add to their stress. I had a young male that was in a bachelor coop and pen that other males were beating up so I moved him. It took awhile but he also recovered. I put him in with a special needs bird I had and at first she wasn't to keen on him but did eventually accept him. Good luck...

Bird was damaged Look closer, especially under wings for signs of bruising / crushing. Move remaining birds to safe location. Upgrade your coop.
