I have a seven month Polish hen that I think might be depressed. She hasn't started laying yet and it is starting to worry me. She often separates herself from the other hens and prefers to be around people and my dog than the other hens. She doesn't eat very much and is rather small. She doesn't go inside the hen house at night and only perks up when people are around her. I partially think it is my fault she is so antisocial because when she was younger, I would baby her and her three siblings. I've watched the other hens around her and they are never really mean to her like I originally thought but she separates herself from them. Did I do something wrong? Anything helps!

I think polish do that because of their feathers on their head. They can't see very much except down. I had some polish that just sat together in the coop all day. Try holding her, and cutting her head feathers off as short as you can around her eyes without the feathers bleeding. I did that to my hen, and she seemed to Perk right up and enjoy life! She won't look as pretty, but I think it's better for the chicken to see! Hope that helps! You'll be surprised at how much she actually looks more like a chicken when you can see her eyes!
