Hello,
I am hoping to get some advice for one of my hens, Digger. About a week ago I had to take one of my other hens to the vet because she was acting very sick and we couldn’t figure out how to help her. We thought she was egg bound but she ended up having peritonitis and sadly we had to put her down. The next morning I noticed Digger starting to act weird. At first I thought I was being over sensitive because of what I had just gone through with the other hen but then it became clear that Digger was not acting herself. She is just acting lethargic and not socializing or being as energetic as normal. She sort of just stands around all puffed up with her neck tucked in and doesn’t run around or explore as much as normal. She seems to be eating fine and still runs over whenever I have treats. However I haven’t seen her drink very much so I’m not sure if she is. At first I thought she might have worms because I saw her do some runny white poops so I put the whole flock on dewormer to be safe but I really don’t think that’s it any more. I have seen her do normal poops since and her lethargy and puffiness is just getting worse it seems. I believe she might me mourning the loss of her friend Ava and I have read that this can happen and last for weeks. However I’d like to hear any thoughts any of you might have because I don’t wanna just assume she’s just sad and overlook something else that may need treatment. I really just want her to feel better.
Also I have checked her and everything else seems normal, she’s just mopey.

She may be depressed if she is alone. Is she the same age as the one you lost? Does she lay eggs? Can you give her some Poultry NutriDrench as a boost, 2 ml daily for a couple of days? Offer some moist chicken feed and a little scrambled egg bits. What wormer did you use? It is always hard to know if they could have parasites or coccidiosis unless your vet could do a fecal test.

Is her crop full or empty, soft, puffy, doughy, or hard? It should feel empty early in the morning. If not, she may be suffering from a crop disorder.

i had a hen and i had to give her pal away she was a meat chicken so she still ate but she would call for him and look for him but then I got her some chicks and she warmed up to them but she bullied them to the point I had to get rid of her

Okay thanks for the advice.
Yes her crop feels normal, not super full but not empty. Ill try giving her some wet food. She isn't alone, we have a total of seven hens now living together, and they live with a guinea hen as well, so she has lots of friends around still. One of the other hens is also acting a bit down but not nearly as much as digger.
Ill do what I can to try to cheer her up, I just want to make sure I'm not missing some sickness or something that would require further attention.
I am using Wrm Clear which is a natural dewormer, and I also gave them Durastat and electrolytes and probiotics when she first started acting ill.
