and thankyou too. Yep I hear their "Just Chickens" all the time, from my sister and my sons (all grown).but to me my chicken are all Pets with a purpose, LOL they are all treated very well just like my dogs and cat. And Ive only eaten one, and that was because when I got my first batch of chickens they sent me 5 light brahma Roos and we couldn't keep them all sooo......... we butchered one. My sons at the time refused to eat Big Boy so he was sent to the freezer and when they weren't looking I added him to the pot of noodles and do you know that I got more compliments on that being the best tasting chicken and Noodles I ever had made and how the chicken tasted more flavorful then ever before, well I finially admitted to them that it was Big Boy and they agreed homegrown chicken is much better. And we eat alot of eggs too, obviously. LOL but really the reason I got into raising chicken was trying to learn how to be self suffient. And for the most part it has worked out,

The first misconception I had was the usual_ they're just yard birds thats all, then you get into them and find out they all have different personalities and quirks, and they become individuals thats when for me the real test began, thats when you learn to respect the animals that give their life for us, that their not just stupid animals but but living , breathing creatures that deserve the best treatment that we can give them, considering that they eventually give us the most precious gift, their life.

Anyway that sounded kinda preachy sorry. LOL Just saying that I understand about the circle of life and your wanting to teach your children
responsibility, and very few kids today knows where there food comes from and therefore no respect for the lives it takes to keep yours going. Good for you! Sandy
