I have had my two lovely Pekins (Fred & Ethal) for a little over a year now. Unfortunately, two days ago I found Ethal had passed away. I have no clue what the cause may have been? She was her typical loud excited self when I let them out in the a.m, went down to the field doing her normal "slug hunting" came back up happy as a clam. By mid afternoon I noticed Fred was acting funny, I went over to see what the commotion was all about and found Ethal had passed. No signs of predator or anything odd at all...?
It has only been two days but Fred is noticeably depressed and it breaks my heart to see him like this. He won't go into the pen at night no matter how hard I bribe him, I can barely get him to step off the back patio, he keeps trying to come in the house with us. I don't like him sleeping out of his pen (we have many predators) but I can't get him to budge!! I'm thinking of finding him another lady, but I'm not sure how that will go. I have 2 dogs, a cat, 5 chickens, and 3 Muscovy ducklings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
