Depression In Geese

One of my geese is really depressed because she has to be kept alone in a small pen (she has wing problems and the chickens attack her because of it). What should I do? All she does is cower in the corner and will not eat any food or water. Should I put another bird in there with her?

What other birds do you have? Another goose would be good, but a duck would do for company. Chickens aren´t much company for geese.

I've had that very thought on my mind for days. We got a pair of Sebs a few weeks ago. Mr. seemed to roll with it, eat, honk, etc. Ms Goose has not made the transition well. I do think she's depressed. Naps, green poo, even a nap standing up. Today when I checked their area in the shed, today is the first day of no green runny poop.

I do think they get depressed. I think changes come hard to them. At least they're getting attached to hubby.

If your girl is depressed, maybe a gander would make her happy. I figure they could be pretty easy to get considering male poultry isn't as popular as girls.

Haha yep- the ganders do usually deal with changes better than the geese. We are goin g to try putting Ivan, the other Seb, in with her today. Thank you so much, and I am glad that your goose is getting better I really hope that Ivan will make her happier... I hate seeing Olga so sad. Poor girl would not eat or drink

She has angel wing, and she also had two broken blood feathers. She had surgery a week or two ago for the blood feathers, and she healed up quick and started to try and get out of her pen. We let her outside because we were afraid that she would hurt herself. But when we let her outside, and Embden gander came up and attacked her. So now she is back in her pen with a bloody wing. She is healed again, but she keeps being put back inside all of the time, so that is why she is depressed The girl has been through a lot- I don't know if she will ever get better. Something always has to happen But we put Ivan in with her and now she seems a bit happier and calmer

Oh, poor little thing. Well from what I read Sebs are more easy-going than Embdens, so she´ll probably be fine with Ivan. Some oeople on here like to use vet-wrap. Brilliant stuff. I used to use it in England, but can´t get it here. Well, could you help her along by wrapping her wings for a while in the wrap, or would that not work?

Jadeduck, I think geese especially have a very strong attachment to a mate. If Ivan's her friend, he will probably take care of her.

The vet wrap is a great idea! I'll have to try that Ivan is in with her now and they are both much happier. I think my Seb, Olga, is finally drinking and eating again
