Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

What would be interesting MOA vs MOTHRA - I think Godzilla is not a fair match but, chickens eat insects (moths) and Mothra flies

Too right that Godzilla isn't a fair match - Moa would eat him for breakfast!

Okay, so she isn't actually fat.. but she is a solid hen.
Nambroth you have such a way with words - next time my husband says anything about my weight I shall have to point out to him that I'm not actually fat, I'm just 'solid'

Hello everyone--

I just wanted to apologize to you all. The first part of this thread had many photos of Derperella (and friends) that I did not upload directly to BYC, but instead used my personal website to host the images. Well, yesterday my web host informed me that the server went and fried itself and nothing is recoverable. It seems unlikely at this point that it will work again, which means I can not re-upload the images so that the URLs to the photos work again.
Since I can not go back and edit the posts (they are old!!) and asking for a moderator's help with each and every one is a rather obnoxious thing to do to our fine moderators, those photos probably will never work again. I have no control over this situation I am sad to say!

I still have the photos. Just no way to put them back into the old posts where they originally showed up!

I guess this is even more motivation to make a book, huh? The server can't fail if they are posted on real, physical paper....
Maybe I can find some time in the next few months.
The problem with self-published, full color photo type books is that they can be sort of expensive. Before I take the time to do it, I need to figure out if it is something that most people can even afford. My last art book cost over $60 per book out of my own pocket, which is pretty expensive! I know not everyone can afford that much for a book with pretty photos. But at the same time, I won't use a discount publisher from overseas because I won't put my name on something that is crummy quality.
Pitching this story to a publishing house is just not going to happen. I have tried it before and they just don't want it.

So, I will do some research! Bear with me. :) My life is pretty crazy at the moment, especially since we are gearing up to start veggies soon, I have some art shows coming up, deadlines on art projects, and... oh yeah, chickens too!! Owning my own 'business', growing the food, meeting deadlines for clients, preparing for shows, and making my own art... boy, I think I work at least twice the hours now as I did at any 'normal' job! This year I aim to try to 'make' at least 30-40% of our own food via gardening and the hard work of my ladies, with their beautiful and nutritious eggs.

Speaking of which, today Derp was trying to lay her egg on top of poor Willow. She would hop into the nest box with her, Willow growling the whole time, and did slow circles around Willow. Always spinning, spinning! Finally, Willow got fed up, popped her egg out, ran out of the nest box, and sang the egg song right AT Derp in her frustration (do all Easter Eggers have so many emotions?!). I can't blame her. Derp took it all in stride... spinning and spinning until she was positioned just right to lay her egg!

Again I apologize for anyone that likes to go back and look at them, and any newbies coming in to read Derp's story from scratch!!

Beautiful picture Nambroth of Moa and the sea, do you think you will ever do another of her maybe on land with other people and horrorifed hens running away in terror from her ? Also sorry to hear about your site and all those photos being unrecoverable that's alot of time gone from putting them up in the first place. I am hoping somewhere on some site they were saved as well. Also glad that the hard copies are safe too. Since you have a kitten know Nambroth, will you start to work on paintings of domestic animals other than parrots and poultry ?

can you see if internet archive saved them???

i just checked, go to this link, and click on the bolded dates, those dates were archived

Hah! I forgot about the wayback machine. Sure enough, there they are again! I will take screenshots of the missing photos so I can remember which images go with each story. For now other members can peek too of course!

I am not sure how 'deep' the archive is, I only checked the first few pages. At least about halfway through the thread I started uploading my photos here directly, so those will still exist!

Probably not; I have been drawing each chicken in a very unique and silly situation. Next will be Derp, in a weird place! Not that it's so unusual for her, huh? I hope to eventually have a number of these paintings and maybe make a calendar or something.

We do have a cat, but she is the Fud Guy's cat for sure. They are closely bonded. I like her okay, and she is a good cat, but I am not too much of a cat person. I do paint other animals sometimes, which I can show you once I remake my website, but I probably will concentrate mostly on birds overall.
