Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

So sorry to hear you have had a rough time recently.

The flock is lovely! Do you think Derp will ever take interest in raising some REAL babies! It would be great to see her with a couple of little ones starring off, wondering what the heck Mom is looking at!!!! Thanks for sharing them!

Wow - fantastic photos Nambroth!

It sounds like you have been going through a tough time recently - no wonder you haven't been able to give us regular derpdates. However, just knowing that Derp is back brooding invisible babies brings some wonderfully funny images to mind - have they already 'hatched', or is she still sitting on the invisible eggs?

Any chicken owner will know that you are not really crazy giving Bubbles leg massages - nothing is too much for our girls and boys! If he is not suffering, is able to get around ok and can look after his lovely ladies he must be enjoying life in the Fud Lady's flock.

Here's hoping that life will calm down for you now, and that you will be able to take a deep breath and take it a bit easy for a while. It is so sad when you lose a pet that you cared so much for, and to have your mother in law's health problems of top of losing two of your animal family must have been so difficult for you. Big hugs and positive thoughts from France.

Unfortunately I think Derp might be a terrible actual mother (even to other hen's eggs, as her genetic problems do not make her a breeding candidate). On top of this, I have Marek's in my flock, and I don't see a safe way to let one of my hens brood chicks. Especially since it likely means more chickens than I have room for, and I can not responsibly re-home birds that have been exposed to Marek's. Alas!!

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of the family dog. I do hope things calm down after the series of bad events.

Those are beautiful photos. The Coho yawning series is fun. I also imagine her singing when I look at the photos... La, La Laaa....
Mildred is so pretty. She has that sweet softness to here eyes that my Cochin hens have as well.

Fud Lady knows best! I can't get the image out of my mind of Derp still brooding full-grown babies though, pecking them when they don't fit under her

! I can completely understand your hesitation with Mareks, what chicken owner hasn't had nightmares about it

Thank you for continuing to share your story with us! I just love reading about Derperella. I've got a frizzled EE with a little bit of Derpiness in her too and I love her for her quirkiness.
