Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Looks like your barred rocks had molts like my girl Debra Jo did.

My girls are also fascinated with ice. I break the ice from their water buckets and they go nuts trying to fish it out of the water! It's kind of counter-intuitive to think that they want to eat ice in this freezing-cold weather we've been having.

Is Derp really that small, or is Trousers as big as he looks in that picture? He looks like a big guy!

Oh goodness, haha! Yes, that looks like Moa and Chickadee this year. I guess Barred rocks commonly have bad molts?

Derp is fairly small (I can nearly wrap both hands around her when I pick her up, though I do have very long fingers!), but Trousers is also VERY big!

I just got through reading this entire thread from the very beginning and I am obsessed with Derp!!! She actually reminds me of my poor Woodstock that got heatstroke on her way to my home. We're not sure if it was the heatstroke that made her spacey or if she was this was before we adopted her, but she does a lot of derpy things. She has always been scraggly and a little sickly. This is her staring:

Exactly half of my barred rocks had similar molts (and so did three of my Easter-eggers, one of my red sexlinks, two of my Sebrights, and one Wyandotte). The other three have lost their feathers one by one. I was talking with my mom about that the other day. I wonder if it would be possible to breed chickens to molt a certain way... Sounds like an interesting (if not lengthy) experiment to me! :D

(Oh, dear, your description of her size made me think of a cheeseburger for some reason. It's hard to look at Derp the same way now!)

oh, how sweet! She's just fluffy!

Aw! What a nice Derp update! I'm so glad to hear that Trousers is working out for you! I hope he and Derp will be buddies!

I'm sorry to hear about Coho, I hope she recovers soon and does not have any more problems!
