Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Oh Derp was quite sweet, grooming Trousers. And one of the hens was even purring sitting next to him. He is a good rooster. Has he shown any evidence yet, such as frequent matings with any of the hens to show which ones are his favorites yet ?

Willow was actually growling at Derp a little in that video, because Willow thinks that the rooster is HERS!

When I first introduced him, Willow (the hen on the right in that video) "Claimed" him immediately. He will mate with her perhaps once every few days, though he is very clumsy. If she feels he is not doing things correctly or if he squishes her, she will tell him off and he will actually listen and get off immediately. The other day he attempted to mount Derp backward, and I told him to "cut it out" and.. he actually did! I am honestly really very surprised with how gentle and kind he is. If he stays this way he will have a home here forever.

The only thing he does not do well is run-- I think, if I had my flock free ranging all the time, I would get a game rooster as a guardian, just because Trousers cannot get to dangerous situations fast. But in a penned with supervised free range situation, like I have, Trousers has been perfect so far.
