I don't think it's bad you make fun of her. I doubt any chicken would understand what derp is and get offended, besides, if a chicken is derpy, she probably would never be able to understand it anyways XD. We have a pullet that, while she's not quite derpy, she isn't the brightest chicken out there. We joke that the little hamster living in her brain fell off its wheel and now it's running in circles when she gets that look of extreme concentration on her face.

We all know you love Derp! I guess she's like that loaf of bread, warm, content, happy and lacking any worry. Derp is ZEN. She is wise in her derpiness. That is why we love Derp too - because we may be smarter than her, but Derp doesn't run around worrying about things she can't fix, which is something we humans do way too much. GO DERP!!!

I think we all know that your jests are meant in affection. I have a similar hen, who always seems to be in a fog. She doesn't seem to realize I have picked her up for several minutes, then she's like "wait - what?" Like Derp, she seems to exist outside the pecking order. I think the others know she would not contribute.

I love little oddball chickens. Derp is a perfect name for such a silly pullet. I wish I was that clever when writing about my Nando. Too bad we don't live closer, they would be perfect for each other! I'll be subscribing to the adventures of Derp.
