I swear she is good lesson for kids. We are having in our paper this week about mental illnesses and dealing with people with mental illness and disability with kindness.
More Derperella photos soon! It has been ugly weather here for nearly every day... rain and muck! I hate to take my camera out in it. There is a hint of sunshine today though, maybe I get get some photos!
I'm starting to get three eggs a day from 6 pullets, and so three of my girls are laying. With as little as Derp is, and as stunted, I would not be surprised if it takes forever for her to lay (if she even lays at all!). That doesn't matter to us though, we love and care for her no matter what.
The reason I mention the pullets starting to lay is that it's made everyone pretty cranky and there is a lot more pecking going on than normal. I notice that the pullets tend to get grumpy as they hit laying age... I don't blame them, that must be uncomfortable until their bodies adjust! Sadly, this means that poor Derp has started to get picked on. If she gets pecked, she will run, but then she seems to forget that anything happened at all and is just happy with herself, so it doesn't bother her too much. I might bring her in the house for some snuggle time this afternoon!
Snuggle time with Derp!
Get cozy with a good book!
See if she likes hot cocoa!
We've had crappy weather too....no fun. My girls haven't been coming outside much, too windy. They would prefer that I just shut their door completely...until I actually do it...then they want out...and the cycle continues.
Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the wind.

But maybe her Derpy resilience will mean that the pecking won't upset her too much. Chickens tend to settle down after the laying begins, I find. I hope one day you find a special Derpy egg.

poor derpy! good for you for taking such good care of her...we have 80s weather here still, but all hens are on strike as far as laying! Looking forward to pics of Derpy's first egg!
Love the Salmon Favs!!!!

If she lays, I want eggs to hatch, I'd be proud to hatch a brooder of Derperellas!
