Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

She's so beautiful, it's a shame she's spazzeee. :-( I'd love to get this breed, but it's a worry if the intellectual disability is prevalent in the gene pool.

Spazzy Susie makes a great accessory, does she not? For all of you who have wanted to see her, here she is....... i hope she lives up to your expectations!

I'd love to get some, too. But I have an all Bantam flock and would be looking at Bantam SFs, which don''t seem to be that easy to find. And I definitely do not need more roosters (have four), although the SF roos are beautiful.

Correct me if Im wrong, but aren't both of these birds from the same hatchery? That hatchery may just have something hoaky going on with the lines that it is using for production. I have a salmon fav, and she appears normal

That's correct. I sincerely doubt that all Salmon Faverolles carry weird genetics; in fact I suspect that only the line that Derp and Spazzy Susie came from do (as far as the issues we are talking about here). That's the risk with hatchery birds, and I have learned a lot since I ordered. Don't get me wrong-- I wouldn't trade Derp for anything, BUT! The fact is that she was not a healthy thriving chick nor is she anywhere close to the breed standard (if that is important to you).

Dowie,
I am very certain that you can get good, healthy, quality Faverolles from a breeder-- check out the Faverolles thread. :)

Hmmm "intellectual disability?" I don't mean to offend but, they are chickens not rocket scientists. Derp seems to get along just fine - she even lays eggs. I've never heard people say they don't want silkies because of their intellectual disability (more likely their vision blinding crests). If they were gonna go chicken y chicken I'd put my money on Derp.

Kari Dawn you may be one of the lucky ones with your girl. I understand My Pet Chicken gets their stock from hatcheries, they may have some of Derps siblings also. It''s all a roll of the dice..
Congrats on your pretty girl.

So far, I have had fantastic sucess with all of MPC stock...I hear they are a drop shipper, but my birds have always been vigerous, healthy, and beautiful. My first order had TONS of roosters, but since then, not a single one. My last order of easter eggers came from meyers. 16 were sent, all were weak, three died within the first week. I now suspect three of the survivors to be roosters.
