found it, it is a big help- will give the little one the chance he deserves- he is great at grabbing a treat and running away to eat it- never tells the others he has it...
Artsyrobin - glad I could point you there. Alot of people have great success with raising them. Your's sounds like a a real smarty pants, he should do very well.
I love reading all of the Derp stories and Derpish contributions here and thought I would ask a question....do any of you all have Mille Fleur D'Uccles? I have 3, 1 from a local ranch store and 2 from Ideal (although for all I know the ranch store one came from Ideal too)
The reason I ask is that all three of them are rather "special"
and have some Derpy traits.
Damien (hen we thought was a roo, 2 years old) has the staring thing down. She will stand and stare at a wall, my shoe, the ground, whatever, squeal and quiver excitedly for very long periods of time. She's always too slow to catch bugs, and even if you hold it for her to eat, she will peck in the wrong place, totally missing the bug and someone else will usually get it. She has sort of a princess mentality and gets offended when others eat near her, squealing indignantly and strutting, but she won't actually take their food or eat alongside them. She also has bad feet and so gets periodic "pedicures"
Despite the weird food behaviors she is pretty solid and seems healthy. She has never laid an egg (being Princess-like, somehow it would be beneath her.)
Snowshoes and Naked Neck (she has a naked strip of skin down the front of her neck) are less touched in the head, although they are both broody now. 2 broody, squealingly indignant MFDs are pretty hilarious! Snowshoes is obsessed with my new blue flip-flop sandals (only when I am wearing them though).... She seeks them out and scratches my toes/sandals and coos like she is trying to arrange a nest.
I am really interested in favorelles, but folks I know here in the desert who have had them haven't had the best of luck, I think because of the extreme heat...hopefully someday!
