Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Aw, gotta love Derp! She makes me want to get some Faverolles...

No....Faverolles.....Stick to Brahmas.....Or Easter Eggers.......Or maybe Silkies....Okay, maybe Faverolles, what the hay?

I have contracted CMI (Chickemathitis). Careful, everyone, I may be contagious!

At least I only have two chickens at the moment. With a coop built for 6-8 and that's not even adjusting for smaller birds which only count as half a chicken, two thirds at the most.... Yeesh!

Derp is the main reason I ended up with a flock of large and bantam Faverolles and I don't regret any of it. They are the best chicken ever if you don't keep many other breeds with them, since they get bullied easily. It's so worth it though, yesterday I was trying to move my young girls out to the adult coop and my poor little 'Red' was scared of my roo and ran under me and cuddled up against me like a little peep to a mother hen. I love these guys, it's the perfect breed for us.

Well I have to take some of Red in the daylight, I work long shifts, but I had posted some of her a little while back, she was a Derp look-alike. I do have some of my other Fav's though.

Freddy(D'uccle hen) and Boba Fett(Salmon Fav boy)

Fred/Boba's babies(these guys weren't planned) very fluffy cheeked, fuzzy legged and many have 5 toes

2 of my blue bantam faverolle peeps, such sweet and silly babies, they hop out of the brooder and follow me if I don't put the screen on top well enough

Ok the ladies had their photoshoot this morning. They all hatched in August so they are not fully grown yet, but they are my large Fav's not bantams.

Red doing a great 'Derp' impression

Snaggie(crooked toes and beak, but so sweet I had to keep her) and Red wondering where the the treats are

Left to right: Seagull, Monika(the only non hatchery girl, that's why she is bigger and better feathered), Red and Snaggie

Monika, Red and Snaggie(you can see her bad foot in this pic) 'Om nom nom, treats'

Very sweet! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a good idea to keep the SFs separate from more aggressive breeds.

Freddy and Boba Fett had chicks?! Freddy must be one tough hen. Boba is so big compared to her!

Well usually I wouldn't have put these 2 together, but he lost his hen to a predator when he was younger and he was so traumatized that I put him with her, he was smaller then she is. When he got bigger I tried to separate them, but she would throw fits. He is very gentle and she can fly if he ever gets too rough. . I have the other girls with him now and the bantams are almost old enough to go with Freddy, so we will see how that goes.
