Designing and Building my Fisrt Coop and run, in So. Cal.

You are doing a great job. We will be starting our new coop in a couple of weeks. Working on the run right now. I am not too far from you and have all those same predators. It is quite the project making a safe home for our girls. Lucky you can have a rooster, I can't.

Putting down the dig guard. Too many rocks to go deep with a trench, so instead there is about 18" of hardware cloth apron.

added a secret passage... ok, no. I plan on hanging the feeder under the coop. This way I can get to it without going into the run.

Built panels to cover the top. I was running near out of hardware cloth, the middle strip I covered with a trimmed off piece of hardware cloth. Forgot to get that picture.

I made a door! And it works and everything!

I still need to build the ramp so the chickens can get into the coop. I know there are details I'll come back and do over, like the sliding access door under the coop. And if I really get bored, I'll redo the hardware cloth roof. Its functional, and should keep out predators, but things didn't line up as pretty as I'd like. I have a basic feeder and waterer (thanks Tina!), but I want to build new ones.
